Who is Urbalive?
Did you know? The Urbalive Worm Composter was first imagined as a stool for storing small garden tools. It eventually became a worm composter and won a Red Dot Award in 2017.
Urbalive is a brand of Plastia, a family-owned Czech company founded in 1993 by Mr. and Mrs. Novotný. Plastia develops, manufactures, stores, and ships its products from a single site in Nové Veselí, in the Vysočina region. Everything is made 100% in the Czech Republic.
The Urbalive Worm Composter was designed by Czech designers Jiří Pelcl and David Crla. The goal: a worm bin attractive enough to stay in your living space. Plastia uses recycled plastic for internal parts whenever possible and reuses its production scraps.
Moutta Farm, which has been raising composting worms since 2007, chose Urbalive for its design and build quality. We also carry all the Urbalive replacement parts to keep your Urbalive Worm Composter going for years.
Questions about Urbalive products
Urbalive worm composter with 2 or 3 trays: which one should I choose?
The 2-tray Urbalive worm composter is ideal for getting started or for a small household. The 3-tray version offers more capacity for a family that produces lots of food scraps and peels. You can also start with 2 trays and add an Urbalive tray later.
What else do I need besides the Urbalive worm composter to get started?
You'll need composting worms, sold by weight. A kitchen compost pail is very handy for collecting food scraps and peels before taking them to your Urbalive worm composter. To learn more, visit our vermicomposting section.
Urbalive worm composter or Urbalive Bokashi: what's the difference?
The Urbalive worm composter uses composting worms that turn waste into compost. The Urbalive Bokashi works without worms: the waste ferments with microorganisms in an airtight bucket with 2.8 gallons (10.6 liters) of usable capacity. The two solutions work very well together.
Are Urbalive replacement parts available?
Yes. Moutta Farm offers the Urbalive lid, the Urbalive leachate tray, the Urbalive spigot, the Urbalive wooden legs, and other parts. You'll find them all in the Urbalive replacement parts section.
