Who is WORMacotta?

Did you know?

With the WORMacotta, there's no need to harvest the compost: the worms deposit it in the soil themselves, right at the roots of your plants.

WORMacotta is a Moutta Farm brand. Moutta Farm has been raising composting worms since 2007 and designed the WORMacotta worm composter for anyone who wants to feed their plants with food scraps, directly in the soil.

The WORMacotta is made from 100% natural terracotta in Portugal, the kingdom of pottery. The idea is simple: push the tube into the soil until the top row of holes is hidden, fill it with finely chopped peels, and put the lid on. The worms eat the scraps inside the pot, then colonize the surrounding soil and enrich it with vermicompost.

The WORMacotta fits in a planter, a wooden container, a raised vegetable bed, or right in your garden. It rounds out our line of in-ground worm composters. The WORMacotta comes with a 2-year warranty.

Questions about WORMacotta products

Which WORMacotta size should I choose: 1.1 L or 6.5 L?

It all depends on how much soil surrounds the pot. The 1.1 L WORMacotta is suited to a 4–7.9 gallon (15–30 liter) planter and holds about 2.2 lb (1 kg) of food scraps. The 6.5 L works in a container larger than 26.4 gallons (100 liters), a raised garden bed, or directly in the ground, and holds about 11 lb (5 kg) of food scraps. If you have lots of peels, plan on several WORMacotta, one per container.

Do the worms come with the WORMacotta?

No, the Eisenia composting worms are sold separately. 8.8 oz (250 g) of worms is enough for one WORMacotta. Be sure to choose composting worms, not garden earthworms, and use a potting soil free of chemical fertilizers.

Where should I install the WORMacotta?

The WORMacotta can be installed in a planter, a pot, a wooden container, or directly in your vegetable garden. Push it into the soil until the top row of holes is no longer visible. In winter, a piece of XXL hemp mat or a layer of mulch protects the terracotta lid from frost.
