The WORMacotta, designed by Moutta Farm, is an in-ground worm composter for your planter, flower pot, or vegetable garden/yard. It's perfect for feeding your plants with your organic waste.

A 100% natural material: because this worm composter is made entirely from natural terracotta, no plastic will ever come into contact with your plants, flowers, or vegetables.

WORMacotta buried in your garden or vegetable bed

Simple to use: just push the tube in until the last row of holes is hidden below the soil in your pot or planter, then fill the tube with your food scraps. This keeps insects from getting into the tube.

Chop your peels into small pieces to speed up the worms' work. Add the worms to your planter; they will come to eat the scraps in the worm composter every day and settle into their new environment.

We recommend finely chopping food scraps to help the worms digest them faster.

Once the worms are in your planter, they will feed every day on the scraps inside the worm composter and colonize their new home.

We recommend using the WORMacotta in a planter holding 4–7.9 gallons (15–30 liters) for the 1.1L pot, and more than 26.4 gallons (100 liters) for the 6.5L pot.

Included: the complete Vermicomposting guide and a detailed 20-page manual (8.3 x 8.3 in / 21 x 21 cm, in English) to walk you step by step through using and caring for your worm composter.

Vermicomposting guide and user manual

Comes complete with:

  • 1 lid,
  • 1 tube,
  • 1 Vermicomposting guide + assembly instructions in English.

Easily bring life back to your vegetable garden or yard: a natural ecosystem will form to meet the needs of your plants and vegetables, thanks to the fertilizer produced by the worms: vermicompost.

Comes with a lid that protects the contents from rain (outdoors) and keeps pests such as fruit flies out of the scraps.

Turn your plantings into a worm composter with WORMacotta

Practical and simple, it will improve your soil quality day by day. This product is made in Portugal, the kingdom of pottery.

❄️ Watch out for frost!
The lids can be damaged by repeated freezing and thawing. We recommend protecting them in winter with a hemp mat, for example.

Your questions about the WORMacotta

The farm's answers to the questions our customers ask us most often.

With the WORMacotta, it all comes down to how much soil surrounds the pot. We recommend the WORMacotta 1.1 L for a planter or pot holding 4–7.9 gallons (15–30 liters), and the 6.5 L for a container of more than 26.4 gallons (100 liters), a raised garden bed, or in-ground planting. The small model holds about 2.2 lb (1 kg) of food scraps, and the large one about 11 lb (5 kg). If you generate a lot of peels, it's best to plan on several pots, one per container: some customers find the small model a bit tight for one person. Designed by us, the WORMacotta worm composter is 100% natural terracotta, with no plastic in contact with your plants.

Push the WORMacotta into the soil until the last holes are no longer visible. This keeps fruit flies and fungus gnats from getting in. On the 1.7-gallon (6.5 L) model, which is 12.8 in (32.5 cm) tall, the last hole is about 3.1 in (8 cm) from the rim. You can install the WORMacotta in a planter, a pot, a wooden planter box, or directly in your vegetable garden. To get started, place a little cardboard torn into small pieces and some coffee grounds at the bottom, then add your first finely chopped food scraps.

All our advice: What is an in-ground worm composter and how does it work?

No, the composting worms are sold separately from the WORMacotta worm composter. The WORMacotta comes with its tube and lid, a vermicomposting guide, and an online training session. To get started, 8.8 oz (250 g) of worms per pot is enough. Place them in the pot or directly in the soil right next to it, especially for the 1.1 L model: they'll find their own way to the food scraps. Use Eisenia composting worms, not earthworms from your yard, and a potting soil with no chemical or organic fertilizer.

With the WORMacotta, the one must-have is our Eisenia composting worms, sold separately: 8.8 oz (250 g) per pot is plenty. In winter, a piece of our XXL hemp mat, cut to the shape you need, or simple mulch protects the WORMacotta's lid from repeated freeze-thaw cycles. In the kitchen, our Maze 9 L compost pail or our Urbalive 6 L compost pail holds your food scraps between feedings. Finally, our Le Régime des Vers magnet reminds the whole family what worms like to eat.

The worms eat the food scraps in the pot, then come out through the holes to explore the soil, where they leave their worm castings at the base of your plants: that's the whole idea behind the WORMacotta, and it's why you rarely see them in the tube. Since they have no teeth, they go after the peels as soon as they start to break down, so chop them finely to speed up their work. They're most active between 59 and 77 °F (15–25 °C), and a little coffee grounds or an apple peel will draw them in. With the WORMacotta, your soil gets better month after month.

All our tips: What is an in-ground worm composter and how does it work?

The WORMacotta worm composter doesn't need regular harvesting: the nutrients go straight into the surrounding soil. After a few months, when the pot holds more vermicompost than food scraps, lift out the WORMacotta and empty it into a bucket, or directly around the base of a plant or tree. Put the worms back by hand or separate them with a sifter; if a few stay in the compost, that's fine. Then set the pot back in place and start feeding again. If you have more peels than the worms can eat, a bokashi bin can serve as a pre-composter.

I've been using my 2 worm composters since August and I'm completely satisfied! My little Willys are working well and I alternate the filling. This method piques some people's curiosity!

Works very well, lots of worm reproduction and therefore a good compost. However, there's a white film on the lower outer part, any idea?

In the ground since early January, in a large window box, the worms are thoroughly enjoying it and are nice and "plump"; it's almost a bit small for the compost of one person (seasonal vegetables and fruit) who is almost vegetarian ;-)

Satisfied, but I should have waited until the end of winter to set it up, and it's not very easy to extract the worm compost from the pottery.
