The WORMbox worm composter fits perfectly into your home and comes in 12 colors, with models ranging from 2 to 4 trays and an optional planter for your plants.

Designed and made in France (in the Landes region), its black parts are made from recycled and recyclable plastic, ensuring both durability and respect for the environment.

WORMbox with 3 trays

The base on 6 casters supports the stacked round trays, allowing the worms to move from bottom to top. The top tray regularly receives your fresh organic waste, ensuring continuous, efficient composting.

Its distinctive, elegant design makes it easy to fit into any home.

The design and integrated trays are the result of over 15 years of experience and passion—giving you an efficient, practical, and long-lasting worm composter.

The main goal of the WORMbox is to offer you a worm composter that is sturdy and efficient, with excellent value for money. Composting worms thrive in it and efficiently turn your food scraps into rich compost, ready to use for your plants.

It grows with your household: you can add extra trays as your family grows, or even replace the lid with a planter for your own plants.

WORMbox with planter

Comes complete with:

  • 1 lid,
  • 1 planter (optional),
  • 2 to 4 trays,
  • 1 leachate tray with spigot and seal,

Advantages

The WORMbox worm composter offers many advantages:

  • Great value for money: high-quality French manufacturing.
  • Self-supporting lid: it lifts easily with one hand and hangs on the edge of the tray with its inner hook, so you never have to set it on the floor.
  • Low environmental footprint: the WORMbox is made from recyclable plastic.
  • Modular and expandable: simply add trays as the amount of waste you need to process grows.
  • Stylish and ergonomic: fits easily into any home and is convenient for everyday use. 12 colors available.
WORMbox tray with micro-perforations

How it works:

As the lower trays fill up, you add a new tray on top, moving up one level. The worms gradually migrate upward, drawn by the fresh food scraps, to feed on new organic matter. The vermicompost and worm tea are harvested from the lower levels of the worm composter.

Your questions about the WORMbox

The farm's answers to the questions our customers ask us most often.

The WORMbox works for almost every household because it grows with you: it comes with 2 to 4 trays, each with 3.4 gallons (13 liters) of usable capacity, and it holds up to 5 trays.

Here at the farm, we generally recommend 2 to 3 trays for 2 to 3 people, and 4 to 5 trays for a larger family or one that cooks a lot. There's no need to plan for everything from the start: if the bottom tray isn't fully broken down when it's time to harvest, you need another tray. Extra trays for the WORMbox are sold individually in several colors.

All our tips: How does a stacking tray worm composter work?

Yes, as long as it's sheltered. The WORMbox worm composter is mainly designed for the kitchen, pantry, basement, or garage, but several customers keep it on a balcony or a covered patio.

  • Keep it out of the rain, which would get in through the ventilation holes in the lid.
  • Never put it in direct sunlight; during a heat wave, bring it indoors or move it into the shade.
  • A well-populated worm bin can handle temperatures down to about 23 °F (-5 °C); below that, cover it or bring it indoors.

The WORMbox's 6 casters make moving it easy. The worms are happiest between 59–77 °F (15–25 °C).

All our tips: How to protect your worm composter from cold and heat

To start your WORMbox, plan on 8.8 oz (250 g) of worms for 1 to 2 people, 1.1 lb (500 g) for 3 to 4 people, and 2.2 lb (1 kg) or more for larger households. 1.1 lb (500 g) is roughly 1,000 worms.

All the worms settle into a single tray at the start, even if your WORMbox has 3 or 4. The other trays simply wait their turn. There's no need to add too many: they breed, and their population regulates itself based on the space and food available. The more worms you start with, the faster things get going. After that, feed them gradually, keeping an eye on their appetite.

All our tips: How to start your worm composter, step by step

The WORMbox ships complete: lid, 2 to 4 trays, leachate tray with spigot and seal, base with 6 casters, planter if you chose one, our vermicomposting guide with detailed instructions, and a video training session.

The WORMbox worm composter can be ordered with or without worms; our worms arrive in a shipping bedding developed here at the farm. You'll also need bedding (a coco coir block or cardboard) and a round hemp mat. Designed and made in France, in the Landes region, from recycled plastic: its product page lists a 10-year warranty.

In the WORMbox, your worms eat about half their body weight in food scraps every day, sometimes as much as their full weight. That means 1.1 lb (500 g) of worms digest about 8.8 oz (250 g) of scraps a day. Their population doubles every 3 to 4 months, then adjusts to the space available. Expandable up to 5 trays of 3.4 gallons (13 liters) each, the WORMbox worm composter grows with your family: just add a tray.

Bonus: your cardboard, paper, and egg cartons get recycled too, in equal parts with your peels, and it's this balance that keeps odors away. Depending on the household, that's 30 to 50% less organic waste in the trash can.

All our tips: What can you feed the worms in your worm bin?

To get your WORMbox off to a great start, we recommend:

  • our Eisenia composting worms: 8.8 oz (250 g) for 1 to 2 people, 1.1 lb (500 g) for 3 to 4 people, and 2.2 lb (1 kg) or more for larger households;
  • a 9L coir block as starter bedding;
  • our round hemp mat, cut to the right size, placed on the active tray;
  • extra trays for the WORMbox, up to 5 in total;
  • the WORMbox planter, which replaces the lid so you can grow herbs or flowers right above your worms.

To get everything at once, our Pack of 5 Essential Accessories includes 2 round mats, WormFood, RegulaWorm, WORMboost, and a mini rake.

All our tips: Which accessories does your worm composter need?

On the WORMbox, add a new tray on top when the active tray is three-quarters full. The new tray must touch the material below: the worms will move up on their own, drawn by the fresh food scraps. Move your hemp mat up into this new tray as well.

When you run out of empty trays, it's time to harvest. Move the bottom tray to the very top, take off the lid, and set it under a light. Then scrape off the vermicompost in 0.4–0.8 in (1–2 cm) layers every 5 minutes. Handy tip: the lid hangs on the edge of the tray. If you need more room, the WORMbox worm composter holds up to 5 trays.

All our tips: How and when to harvest vermicompost and compost tea

The WORMbox worm composter produces two natural fertilizers for your plants:

  • compost tea (worm tea), after about 2 to 3 months: leave the WORMbox spigot open with a bottle underneath, and it drains on its own without you having to think about it. Dilute 1 part to 9 parts water;
  • vermicompost: first harvest after 3 to 6 months, then roughly every 1 to 2 months. Use 30% vermicompost to 70% potting mix; it keeps for 2 years.

All our tips are in our guide: How and when to harvest vermicompost and compost tea

We’ve been using it for five weeks it’s been really good we have already put our second tier on the worms seem to be thriving. Some do escape every day into the bottom bit where the worm tea collects but we haven’t had any worm tea so they are safe. We just rescue them every day and put them back in the top we have had little fruit flies once so covered everything with pieces of egg boxes. And put a little pot of apple cider vinegar with some washing up liquid at the side of the wormery and that together cleared them up.

After 2 months they are still very active, they seem to like their environment. Despite the high humidity there is no bad smell, and it doesn't produce or attract insects either. We'll see after the winter. Anyway, it's a great pastime, even for children.

This is my second purchase. Just one is a bit tight for a big family when winter comes around with all those soups 😊.

I'm really happy with my worm farm, and every now and then I give a few worms to my fish! It helps keep the population down a bit!

Very good, but unfortunately the hemp disc didn't last very long. After a while we lost all our composting worms. I didn't understand why, and I find the price too high to buy more. Otherwise the idea is great and it works.

GREAT! I've had it in my apartment for several years, no problems at all and very easy to maintain. The initial training allowed me to start the experience with peace of mind and answered all my questions. The round model takes up a lot of room in diameter... there's less wasted space with rectangular or square models... I don't understand why there are round models for indoor use... I know other shapes exist, but I didn't have a choice and I don't want to buy one; the one I got was provided by the waste collection center.

The worm composter is very sturdy. 3 trays may be a bit tight in winter.
The weak point is the wheels. They didn't hold up, so I now have my worm composter sitting on wooden battens. It's true that with the leachate overflowing and the locations not always suitable, the wheel support may weaken? Does this need to be reconsidered, or should the wheels be removed?
So it's not 5 stars, but it's really good. 4.9. Which goes to show that, besides the stars, reviews are worth reading.
Thank you.
