The WORMbox planter replaces the lid and lets you easily grow plants, herbs, or flowers right on top of your worm composter. Because it's microperforated, your composting worms will also move up into it to work and enrich the soil.

It benefits from the warmth and nutrients generated by vermicomposting, promoting natural, vigorous plant growth.

Fully compatible with all WORMbox models, it simply installs in place of the lid. Designed for indoor use, its elegant design blends beautifully into your home.

Made from sturdy, recyclable plastic, it's durable and easy to care for. Ideal for combining composting and growing, it turns your WORMbox into a true 2-in-1 piece that's both practical and decorative.

A clever way to get even more value from your organic waste.

Your questions about the WORMbox Planter

The farm's answers to the questions our customers ask us most often.

Yes, the planter is compatible with all WORMbox models, no matter how many trays you have. The WORMbox planter simply sits in place of the lid, no tools needed. It looks like a tray, only shallower (about 3.1 in (8 cm)), and its micro-perforated bottom lets the worms climb up, roam through the soil, and leave their vermicompost right at the roots of your plants. Designed for indoor use, the WORMbox planter is made of sturdy, recyclable plastic.

Go for herbs (basil, parsley, chives…) if your WORMbox is in the kitchen, or cacti and succulents, which do very well in this rich growing medium. Small flowers also work well. Since the WORMbox planter is fairly shallow, avoid vegetables with deep roots that need lots of nutrients. Your plants benefit from the warmth and nutrients of vermicomposting, and the worms keep enriching their soil.

All our tips: Worm composter with planter: WORMbox, WORMgarden, Transfarmers, WORMacotta...

We recommend a maximum of 5 trays on a WORMbox to keep the whole unit nice and stable. The WORMbox comes with 2 to 4 trays, and you can add more over time: the WORMbox planter always goes at the very top, above the active tray. Don't use a standard tray as a planter: once it's filled with soil, it would be very heavy to handle.

To turn your worm composter into a practical, decorative 2-in-1 feature: the WORMbox planter replaces the lid and gives you about 2.1 gallons (8 liters) of growing space right above your worms. Herbs and flowers benefit from the warmth and nutrients of vermicomposting, and the worms climb up through the micro-perforated bottom to work the soil. That way, your food scraps are put to good use a second time, right in your home. Made from sturdy, recyclable plastic, the WORMbox planter is easy to care for.

Remove the lid and place the WORMbox planter directly on the active tray, the one where you feed your worms. Fill it with potting soil that contains no chemical or organic fertilizer, then plant. Once the planter is in place, you no longer need the hemp mat. Remove it, since the roots will draw moisture from the tray below on their own.

All our tips: Worm composter with planter: WORMbox, WORMgarden, Transfarmers, WORMacotta...

Water sparingly, ideally with a spray mister. The roots of the plants in the WORMbox planter draw the moisture they need from the tray below, which is already moist thanks to your food scraps. Excess water would seep down into the lower trays, where the worms could drown. Keep the spigot on the leachate tray open at all times, with a container underneath, so that nothing stagnates, and clean the leachate tray once a month.
