Lay the oval hemp mat flat on top of the worms, in the top tray, under the lid. Your food scraps and cardboard always go underneath: lift the mat each time you add food, then cover again.Use it dry, with no pre-soaking: the moisture from the food scraps is enough to dampen it. An optional extra: mist it from time to time with WORMboost diluted in water.

An oval mat lasts 2 to 3 months on average. Your worms gradually feed on it: the more active your colony and the moister the bedding, the faster it disappears.Once it's full of holes, don't remove it: cover it with the new one, as it may contain eggs. If it's still thick, crumble it lightly into the food scraps. Store your spare mats in a place with a moderate temperature, away from moisture. A pack of 10 covers roughly 20 to 30 months of use.

Designed and made in France, this hemp mat, or high-density humidification pad (3.3 oz/ft² (1000 g/m²), 0.2–0.24 in (5–6 mm) thick), is specially designed to retain moisture in the top tray of your worm composter, where your composting worms are most active. Simply lay it directly on top of the red wigglers in the active tray (the top tray) to boost their comfort and activity.

Yes! Cut to fit the trays of the Urbalive and Magic Worm, the oval mat gives your worms a cool, moist cover, just like the layer beneath the soil surface. They come up to it to feed and digest fresh food scraps more quickly.

It's also a refuge where they readily breed: you'll sometimes see them intertwined there, and a few cocoons will appear. Hemp helps stabilize the temperature and, since it's 100% natural and biodegradable, your worms eventually nibble it away.

With both the Urbalive and the Magic Worm, you start with a single tray. When it's three-quarters full, add the next one on top and move the oval mat up into it: it should always cover the tray where you feed your worms.

One oval mat per worm composter is all you need; the principle is the same as with other models, only the shape is different. If the old mat is already well eaten, let it finish breaking down in the tray below and place a new oval mat on top.
