Edasil® is a natural mineral soil amendment made from montmorillonite, a clay mineral from the bentonite group known for its exceptional absorption and binding capacity.

Edasil - montmorillonite with high absorption and binding capacity

Thanks to its structure of fine, negatively charged plates, montmorillonite has a very high cation exchange capacity (CEC), allowing it to bind essential nutrients (calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, ammonium, etc.) and release them gradually to plants as they need them.

Edasil provides long-lasting improvement in soil fertility, limits nutrient leaching, and optimizes moisture management.

✔ Approved for use in organic farming (compliant with European regulations)

Benefits

  • Improves soil structure.
  • Increases cation exchange capacity (CEC).
  • Binds nutrients and releases them gradually.
  • Reduces leaching and mineral losses.
  • Better water retention, especially in sandy soils.
  • Actively supports soil microbial life.
  • Positive effect during periods of drought or excess water.

Applications

✔ Soil improvement
Together with humus, Edasil forms the clay-humus complex, the foundation of soil fertility.
It acts as a powerful ionic buffer, storing nutrients and releasing them when plants need them.

✔ Moisture management
Its swelling capacity allows it to hold large amounts of water, which benefits light, sandy soils.

Why choose Edasil?

Edasil is a complete mineral soil amendment that can:

  • Restore the soil's natural fertility;
  • Stabilize nutrients;
  • Improve structure;
  • Optimize water management;
  • Support biological life.

A natural, sustainable, and effective solution for living, productive soils.

Recommended application rates

  • Fields and pastures:
    270 to 890 lb/acre (300 to 1000 kg/ha), depending on needs.
    For maintenance: 180 to 270 lb/acre (200 to 300 kg/ha).

  • Horticulture, vegetable farming, floriculture:
    270 to 450 lb/acre (300 to 500 kg/ha).

  • Gardens, nurseries, golf courses:
    22 lb per 1,076 sq ft (10 kg per 100 m²).

  • Compost / manure:
    17 lb/yd³ (10 kg/m³).

  • Planting holes:
    2 to 4% of the volume.
  • Recommended program (complete soil improvement) for 108 sq ft (10 m²):
    2.2 lb (1 kg) of Aegir.
    2.2 lb (1 kg) of Edasil.
    2.2 lb (1 kg) of Vulkamin granules.
    11 lb (5 kg) of Bokashi mulch.
    Spray Microferm diluted at 1–2% in non-chlorinated water.

Application:
Once a year is enough. Ideally in the fall or early spring, but it can be applied year-round.

Your questions about the Edasil

The farm's answers to the questions our customers ask us most often.

Edasil is a clay-based soil amendment made from montmorillonite. Thanks to its high cation exchange capacity (CEC), it holds on to nutrients (calcium, magnesium, potassium, ammonium…) and gradually releases them to plants; it also retains water. This helps reduce leaching, especially in light, sandy soils. According to our product sheet, it is suitable for use in organic farming.

Our product page pairs it with Aegir, Vulkamin granules, Bokashi EM mulch, and Microferm in a soil improvement program for 108 sq ft (10 m²): 2.2 lb (1 kg) of Aegir, 2.2 lb (1 kg) of Edasil, 2.2 lb (1 kg) of Vulkamin granules, 11 lb (5 kg) of bokashi mulch, and a spray of Microferm diluted to 1–2%, once a year, ideally in the fall.

Edasil can also be added to compost or manure at a rate of about 17 lb per cubic yard (10 kg per m³): the clay helps retain nutrients.

For Edasil, our product sheet recommends:

  • fields and pastures: 270–890 lb/acre (300–1,000 kg/ha) depending on needs, 180–270 lb/acre (200–300 kg/ha) for maintenance;
  • horticulture, vegetable farming: 270–450 lb/acre (300–500 kg/ha);
  • gardens, nurseries: about 20 lb per 1,000 sq ft (10 kg per 100 m²);
  • compost or manure: 17 lb per cubic yard (10 kg per m³);
  • planting: 2–4% of the planting hole volume.

Applying Edasil once a year is enough, ideally in the fall or early spring, but you can apply it any time of year. To minimize dust during application, the manufacturer's documentation recommends reducing the spreading width. Available in sizes from 4.4 to 2,315 lb (2 to 1,050 kg).
