They keep escaping… I don't understand why… I have to leave the worm composter open so there's light to stop them from getting out.

Everything is fine; these worms are very active. I had to restart the composter after the heatwaves ended up wiping out my worms (which also came from the Farm; a composter on a balcony, in the shade). It got going again very quickly, and I'm still very satisfied with these worm farms.

Tout va bien; ces vers sont très actifs; j'avais dû relancer le composteur suite aux canicules qui avaient fini par décimer mes vers (venant aussi de la Ferme; un composteur sur balcon, à l'ombre); c'est reparti très rapidement, je suis toujours très stisfait de ces élevages.

I was only able to collect my parcel very late because of the blunders of the company in charge of delivery. When I opened the parcel, I could only find two worms still alive... I put them in my worm composter anyway. As of today, I can't see anything, I think the two survivors are dead.

Je n'ai pu récupérer mon colis que très tardivement en raison des errements de la société en charge de la livraison. Quand j'ai ouvert le colis, je n'ai identifié que deux lombrics encore vivants....je les ai quand même mis dans mon lombricomposteur. A ce jour, je ne vois rien, je pense que les deux survivants sont morts.

Hello, it was a difficult start with a lot of worries because, as I expected, I immediately became attached to the worms since I love living things in all their forms. I had to find all sorts of tricks on the internet to stop the mass escape of worms from my composter bin.
I spent hours watching over them, picking them up to put them back in, searching for them in every nook and cranny, afraid of not finding them all in the cracks of my balcony's wooden floor, behind the planter boxes, everywhere. It was quite exhausting and unfortunately I found two dead ones, which upset me a lot. I almost gave up, until I put a permanent light source near the bin and changed the composition of the waste. For now I don't dare add much waste; I'm waiting a little now that they are buried down and no longer trying to escape. I'm looking forward to the video conference.

Bonjour, ça a été un début difficile avec beaucoup d’inquiétudes car, et je m’y attendais, je me suis immédiatement attachée aux vers car j’aime le vivant sous toutes ses formes. J’ai dû trouver toute sortes de trucs sur internet pour arrêter la fuite de masse des vers de mon bac composteur.
J’ai passé des heures à surveiller, à les ramasser pour les remettre dedans, à les chercher dans tous les recoins avec la peur de ne pas tous les retrouver dans les fentes du parquet de mon balcon, derrière les bacs de cultures, partout. C’était assez éprouvant et malheureusement j’en trouvé deux morts, ce qui m’a beaucoup peiné. J’ai failli abandonner, jusqu’à ce que je mette un point de lumière permanent près du bac et que je modifie la composition des déchets. Pour l’instant je n’ose pas trop rajouter de déchets, j’attends un peu maintenant qu’ils sont enfouis et ne tentent plus de s’échapper. J’attends avec impatience la visio conférence.

The worms arrived within a week. The package was delivered to my front door. I tracked the package online. Everything went well!

The worms were packed in tight but breathable plastic and came with a heat/cold pack. They were very wriggly and healthy, and I didn't notice any dead worms in the population.
For a couple of days the worms stayed only in their travel supplies, but then started spreading around the compost bin. They are already breaking down all the waste and are doing great. Not a single one has tried to escape.
Special thanks for the good service in Finnish.

Madot olivat pakattu tiiviiseen mutta hengittävään muoviin ja niillä oli mukana lämpö/kylmäpakkaus. Madot olivat todella luikertelevia ja hyvävointisia, enkä huomannut populaatiossa kuolleita lieroja.
Madot olivat pari päivää vain omassa matkaeväässä, mutta alkoivat sitten levittäytyä ympäri kompostilaatikkoa. Ne muhentavat jo kaikkea jätettä ja voivat paksusti. Yksikään ei ole pyrkinyt karkaamaan.

I get the impression that the worms aren't delivered with enough substrate. They all gather in one spot (the one with the thickest substrate) instead of spreading out across the whole bin of the worm composter. I don't know if that's a bad sign (they're still alive!) ...

J'ai l'impression que les vers ne sont pas livrés avec suffisamment de substrat. Ils se regroupent tous à un endroit (celui le plus épais en substrat) au lieu de se répartir dans l'intégralité du bac du lombricomposteur. Je ne sais pas si c'est mauvais signe (ils sont encore vivants!) ...

Started up 1.5 months ago.
I lost my first batch of Willys because of the heat (+35°C). So I brought the worm composter indoors and had a second batch of worms delivered.. These Willys are a bit of runaways. 😢
From now on I'm being careful.. It's going well.. I'm on the second tray, stirring the compost regularly.. but I have loads of fruit flies... in the flat now because I had brought them indoors.
I'm going to follow the advice to add cardboard and eggshells, hoping to get rid of these pests 😱

Comportement des lombrics
Mise en route depuis 1 mois et demi.
J'ai perdu la 1ère série de mes Willy à cause de la chaleur (+35°C).Du coup j'ai rentré à l'abri le lombricomposteur et fait livrer une seconde série de lombrics.. Un peu fugueurs ces Willy. 😢
Désormais je fais attention.. Ca se passe bien.. Suis au second bac en brassant régulièrement le compost.. mais j'ai plein de moucherons... dans l'appart du coup car je les avais rentrés.
Je vais suivre le conseil de mettre carton et coquilles d'œufs pour espérer ne plud avoir ces parasites 😱

I've been using your worms for over three years. Still just as satisfying. The worms settle in very well. To speed up the process a little, I feed them compost and vegetable scraps.
I need a large quantity of vermicompost to make TCO for 12 hectares of ancient wheat.
The worms are in the boiler room. The temperature is constant, summer and winter, at around 20°. I have some difficulty managing the humidity and the fungus gnats.
Yet I put cardboard on the top tray of the worm composter, as well as hemp cushions, which the worms devour. Is the environment too acidic? Could a bit of wood ash improve things, for example by mixing it into the compost?

C’est pour faire du TCO
J’utilise vos vers depuis plus de trois ans. Toujours aussi satisfaisant. Les vers s’installé très bien. Pour accélérer un peu le processus je leur fourni du compost et des déchets de légumes.
J’ai besoin d’une grande quantité de lombricompost pour faire du tco pour les 12 hectares de ble ancien
Les vers sont dans la chaufferie. La température est constante été comme hiver et voisine de 20°. J’ai quelques difficultés a gérer l’humidité et les moucherons
Pourtant je met du carton sur le dernier étage du lombricomposteur ainsi que des coussins de chanvre que les vers dévorent. Es ce que c’est un milieu trop acide ? Es ce qu’un peu de cendre de bois pourrait améliorer les choses, en la mélangeant au compost par exemple ?

So far so good... This is the 2nd time I've ordered them. Unfortunately, they don't survive in apartments that go above 35°C in summer.
I just notice a "big" escape of some of them in the first few days (a good fifty or so), then it stops and they seem happy in the 2 upper trays of my worm composter.
I had the same thing happen this year and last year.

Pour l'instant tout va bien... 2e fois que j'en commande. Malheureusement ils ne survivent pas aux appartements qui depassent les 35deg en été.
Juste je constate une "grosse" evasion de certains les premiers jours (une bonne cinquantaine) puis cela s'arrête et ils ont l'air heureux dans les 2 étages supérieurs de mon lombricomposteur.
J'ai eu le cas cette année et l'année dernière

My worm composter had been in use for several years. It was in perfect condition and my worms were doing wonderfully until this summer's heatwave, which killed them. What a shame! Luckily I found your website! The worms I received seem to be adapting well. They wriggle when I dig through the waste. In short, I'm relieved. Thank you.

Mon lombricomposteur était en service depuis plusieurs années. Il était en parfait état et mes vers se portaient à merveille jusqu'à la canicule de cet été qui les a tués. Quel dommage ! Heureusement j'ai trouvé votre site ! Les vers que j'ai reçus ont l'air de bien s'adapter. Ils gigotent quand je fouille les déchets. Bref, je suis soulagée. Merci à vous.
