My little NAC arrived safely, and the fruit flies showed up shortly after.
I always find a few worms inside the lid. Is that normal?
Is there a way to collect them easily?

Mes petits NAC sont bien arrivés,et les moucherons ont débarqué peu après.
Je trouve toujours qq vers à l'intérieur du chapeau. Est ce normal ?
Y'a t il une méthode pour les ramasser facilement.

I didn't find them very lively. I told myself that after a week things would get better... but I don't find them in great shape. After 3 weeks I got fungus gnats and bigger little black flies. I crushed up eggshells.
I have the impression that they don't eat much.

Je les ai pas trouvé très réactif. Je me suis dit qu'au bout d'une semaine ça irait mieux....mais je les trouve pas fort en forme. Après 3 semaines j'ai eu des moucherons et mouchettes noires plus grande,j'ai broye des coquilles d'eau.
J'ai l'impression qu'ils ne mangent pas beaucoup

I've been using it for several years, but unfortunately this year was so hot that the worms couldn't withstand the heat of the successive heatwaves. The worm composter was outside, in the shade, but since my last delivery of Eisenia worms, I've set it up in a small garage at the bottom of the garden where the temperature stays more constant. However, in summer I get a few gnats that slip in along with the worms; I think they are attracted more by sugary waste (fruit).
Otherwise, I'm very happy to be able to enjoy the compost and the compost liquid, which I dilute to feed the vegetable garden.

Je l'utilise depuis plusieurs années, mais malheureusement cette année a été tellement chaude que les vers n'ont pas résister à la chaleur des canicules successives, le lombricomposteur était à l'extérieur, à l'ombre mais depuis ma dernière livraison de vers Eisenia, j'ai installé le lombricomposteur dans un petit garage au fond du jardin ou la température reste plus constante. J'ai cependant quelques moucherons l'été qui se glissent avec les vers, je pense qu'ils sont attirés plus par les déchets sucrés (fruits)
Sinon très satisfait de pouvoir profiter du compost et du jus de compost que je dilue pour alimenter le jardin potager

I've been using the worm composter for a few years. I had to stop for 3 years for work reasons. With no feeding, no attention, nothing done at all, there were still worms inside after 3 years! That says a lot about the quality of the product!

J'utilise le lombricomposteur depuis quelques années. J'avais dû arrêter pendant 3 ans pour des raisons professionnelles. Sans nourrissage, sans m'en occuper, sans rien faire, il y avait encore au bout de 3 ans des verres à l'intérieur ! C'est dire la qualité du produit !

I received the worms, put them in the composter and fed them well, but there are hardly any worms left (the heat?). I currently counted 2 worms, which is far from the teeming mass there was at the start. The composter is in the coolest spot possible given the high heat we've had.

J'ai bien reçu les vers, mis dans le composteur, bien nourri, il ne me reste pas grand'chose en vers (chaleur ?), j'ai compté 2 vers actuellement, c'est loin de grouiller comme au départ. Le composteur est dans l'endroit le plus frais possible compte tenu de la chaleur élevée que l'on a eu.

Been using our weary for five weeks the worms are doing really well. We’ve only actually lost a couple they’ve escaped and then we found them on the surface in the garage.

I've been composting for several years on my balcony, in large bins 70 cm high, with a drain 15 cm above the ground, with nothing but ordinary garden worms (only plant waste, cardboard, paper, peelings and trimmings from my plants). Never a problem, except this summer: suddenly a lot of odours: all the worms were dead (heatwave). I received their replacements once the weather had cooled down. They got to work. The odours are gone, and everything is fine for them and for us!

Je composte depuis plusieurs années sur mon balcon, dans de grands bacs de 70cm de haut, avec une évacuation à 15cm du sol , sans rien d'autre que les lombrics de jardin (déchets seulement végétaux,cartons,papier,épluchures et taille de mes plantes).Jamais de pb, sauf cette été: beaucoup d'odeurs d'un coup : tous les vers étaient morts(canicule).Reçu leur relève quand le temps a pu fraîchir.Ils se sont mis au travail.Fin des odeurs, tout va bien pour eux et nous!

So far, after 3 months of use, everything is going well. They seem voracious and to have a good reproductive instinct? Final verdict next spring, when (if?) they will have digested 10 tonnes of compost…

Set up for 2 months in a cellar with a temperature of around 20°C.
The worms seem to adapt well, even during periods of absence, by adjusting the frequency of their "meals".

Installé depuis 2 mois dans une cave avec une température autour de 20°C.
Les vers semblent bien s'adapter même lors des périodes d'absence avec adaptation de la fréquence des "repas".

I restarted my worm composter at the beginning of September, after losing everything because of the drought (which I realised a bit too late...). It started up fine, then after a week the worms made a run for it!!! (probably because the substrate was too dry) So a huge thank you for the little manual delivered with the worms, I wouldn't have known what to do! I followed the recommendations (a new tray on top with dampened cardboard) and things went back to normal.
Since then the composting seems to be going normally, even though the worms seem a bit sluggish to me, they're working!
Warning about moisture: we keep a close eye on temperature and on excessive moisture (which attracts fungus gnats), but maybe not enough on dry conditions. I came close to disaster again because it has been very dry in Toulouse these past few weeks => you really need to moisten the substrate and temporarily stop adding cardboard if you see the compost getting too dry. We've never experienced a summer and an autumn like this, so we learn something new every day!

Attention aux conditions climatiques !
Lombricomposteur remis en marche début septembre, j'avais tout perdu à cause de la sécheresse (ce que j'ai compris un peu trop tard...). Démarrage sans problème puis au bout d'une semaine les vers ont pris la poudre d'escampette !!! (probablement substrat trop sec) Alors mille mercis pour le petit manuel livré avec les vers, je n'aurais pas su quoi faire ! J'ai suivi les recos (nouveau plateau par-dessus avec du carton humidifié) et la situation est redevenue normale.
Depuis lors le compostage semble se dérouler normalement, même si les vers me semblent un peu atones, ils bossent !
Warning sur l'humidité : on surveille beaucoup la température et la trop forte humidité (qui attire les moucherons), mais peut-être pas assez les conditions de sécheresse. J'ai à nouveau frisé la catastrophe parce qu'il a fait très sec à Toulouse ces dernières semaines => il faut vraiment humidifier le substrat et arrêter d'ajouter temporairement du carton si on voit que le compost devient trop sec. On n'a jamais connu un été et un automne pareils, donc on apprend tous les jours !
