The Lumbricus terrestris is the largest worm we sell (0.14 oz/4 g). As its name suggests, the Canadian nightcrawler is native to Canada and measures 5.9–7.9 in (15–20 cm). It has a dark red color and a flattened tail end.
Every order is carefully prepared: the worms are sorted and packed on the day of shipping to guarantee freshness, vitality, and excellent health on arrival. The worms are sold by weight, not by count.
At Moutta Farm, we've chosen generous, high-quality packaging. Each box contains sorted and weighed worms, plus bedding weighing twice as much as the worms themselves.
This bedding, developed on our farm, recreates an ideal habitat that supports their well-being and longevity.
This care in preparation and packaging means you receive hardy, active worms that are ready to use, whether for fishing or for feeding your animals.
Fishing bait:
The Canadian nightcrawler is an ideal fishing bait. Its large size and toughness attract many fish, such as barbel, bream, carp, chub, roach, perch, rudd, tench, and trout.
It can be used whole or cut into pieces, which makes it even more attractive. It is especially effective for eel and catfish, yet remains versatile for most types of freshwater fishing.
Your worms are packed in a micro-perforated box or bag that allows good airflow while keeping the right moisture level.
Please note: For logistical reasons, all Canadian nightcrawler orders ship every Tuesday and are delivered to your door on Thursday or Friday.
Animal food:
The Canadian nightcrawler can also be used as food for certain reptiles and amphibians. It is especially suitable for frogs such as Litoria, lizards such as Tiliqua, and snakes such as Thamnophis (garter snakes).
Some insect-eating or omnivorous birds, such as chickens, ducks, and pigeons, can also benefit from worms as a dietary supplement.
Its size and nutritional value make it a suitable food source for many insect-eating or omnivorous species.
Storing your worms:
To keep them for several weeks, we recommend placing them in the bottom of the refrigerator at 37–45 °F (3–7 °C). Check the moisture level regularly.
These worms are not suitable for worm composters, as they need a large amount of heavy, soil-based bedding to stay healthy. To create the best environment, add small pieces of cardboard or paper to their bedding. This setup keeps them active, lively, and ready for fishing.
Live delivery guaranteed, even in summer!
Since 2007, we have been carefully shipping worms all over Europe. Even if something goes wrong during shipping, our customer service team will act quickly to make sure you receive your worms in great shape.
In summer, worms are shipped with ice packs for safe, stress-free transit. During heat waves (above 95 °F/35 °C), shipments may be postponed to protect the health and well-being of the worms.
