Its clever design relies on composting worms that turn your food scraps into vermicompost: a powerful, all-natural soil amendment.

Just drop your peels into the compost section and fill the planter section with soil. The two compartments are separated by a perforated membrane, so the worms can move freely between both sides and deliver the nutrients your plant needs.

Transfarmers

Handmade in Castelnaudary, in southern France, this worm composter flower pot is an innovative, eco-friendly way to reduce your waste and do something good for the planet.

Each piece is unique, handcrafted from natural raw materials, so slight variations in color and texture may occur. Its original, organic shape fits beautifully into any home and can hold a wide range of plants, big or small: vegetables, herbs, foliage, or flowering plants. It can be placed outdoors, but must be sheltered from sun, rain, and frost.

Transfarmers

Comes complete with:

  • 1 terracotta pot,
  • 2 cork and rubber stoppers with seals,
  • 1 perforated divider made of recycled plastic,
  • 1 protective saucer made of recycled plastic,
  • 1 user booklet + instructions,
  • (*) Worms and flowers not included ;)

This amazing ecosystem makes plant care simple and natural: less watering and no more fertilizer! You produce your own compost, which you can harvest and use for your other plants.

Transfarmers

With a 4.5-gallon (17-liter) compost capacity, it must be used with composting worms. It comes with two cork and rubber stoppers with seals (the rubber is made from recycled shoe soles), a protective saucer made of recycled plastic to protect your floor, and a user guide.

Benefits

A 2-in-1 product: your plants feed on your organic waste:

  • 100% made in France,
  • Natural, beneficial materials: terracotta is breathable and absorbent; cork is an excellent natural insulator; the rubber comes from recycled shoe soles,
  • Recycle 0.4 to 0.5 gallons (1.5 to 2 liters) of food scraps per week,
  • Simple, natural maintenance,
  • Give your plants a natural, ideal environment thanks to the worms' work,
  • Save water by watering your plants less,
  • Harvest your own vermicompost: a powerful, natural soil amendment.

How it works:

Practical and eco-friendly, this worm composter flower pot not only recycles your food scraps, it also gives your plants the water and nutrients they need as the peels break down.
You'll love its design and how little maintenance it needs.

Add food scraps at the top and harvest vermicompost from the bottom, in a continuous flow. Simply open the lower stopper and gently scrape out the compost with a small rake, for example. The very first harvest is ready after 6 months.

Care:

For the unglazed part, just mist it with a little water from time to time, then wipe it with a cloth. For the glazed part, a simple dry wipe or a quick pass with a sponge will do.

Your questions about the Transfarmers

The farm's answers to the questions our customers ask us most often.

Yes, but the Transfarmers is most productive indoors, since the worms work best between 59–77 °F (15–25 °C). Outdoors, keep it out of direct sunlight during heat waves and protect it from rain and frost: below 32 °F (0 °C) or above 86 °F (30 °C), worm activity drops sharply. Make sure the bottom of the pot never sits in water, as frost can cause the glaze to blister. Handmade in Castelnaudary, France, each Transfarmers pot is unique. Set it up in its permanent spot while it's still empty, as it gets heavy once filled.

The Transfarmers works for almost any plant: herbs, vegetables, flowering, foliage, or climbing plants, small or large. Choose them based on the light available where it stands: basil, parsley, or cherry tomatoes in full sun outdoors, or green houseplants in a bright spot indoors. Plan on about 7.9 gallons (30 liters) of potting soil for the 6.6-gallon (25-liter) growing section of the Transfarmers. Starter plants in pots less than 5.9 in (15 cm) in diameter are the easiest to plant. Water once a week for the first month, while the roots reach toward the moisture on the compost side. After that, the plant drinks less than it would in a standard pot and no longer needs fertilizer.

All our advice: Worm composter with planter: WORMbox, WORMgarden, Transfarmers, WORMacotta...

The Transfarmers recycles about 1.6 to 2.1 quarts (1.5 to 2 liters) of food scraps per week in its 4.5-gallon (17-liter) compost section. Worms are not included with the Transfarmers, but our 8.8 oz (250 g) pack of composting worms is plenty to get started. First, fill the plant section with soil. Then place 0.8–1.2 in (2–3 cm) of cardboard at the bottom of the compost compartment, add a little potting soil and a glass of water, and put in the worms with a few finely chopped peels. After that, cover each new addition with a layer of dry material, like a lasagna.

To get your Transfarmers started, you'll need Eisenia composting worms, which are not included: our 8.8 oz (250 g) pack is more than enough. The pot comes complete with its 2 stoppers, perforated divider, and saucer. These parts are also sold separately if you'd like to keep spares on hand: stopper, divider wall, and protective saucer for the Transfarmers. For the dry material to layer over each batch of scraps, our natural fiber substrate replaces cardboard and paper. And in the kitchen, our Maze 9 L compost pail holds your food scraps.

No. Unlike tray worm composters, the Transfarmers does not produce leachate. Moisture is absorbed by the worms, the soil, the plant, and the dry material, and any excess evaporates through the breathable terracotta. An opening at the bottom of the Transfarmers pot lets any extra water from watering drain into the included saucer, which protects your floor. Don't leave the saucer full of water. If the compost gets too wet, add some cardboard or paper torn into small pieces.

The first harvest from the Transfarmers happens after about 6 months, through the bottom plug, once you see rich, dark soil that smells like humus. Protect the floor with newspaper, open the plug, and leave it open for a few minutes so the visible worms can move up toward the peels. Then gently collect the compost by scraping with a small trowel or a small rake, and stop as soon as the material becomes coarse. Put any undecomposed pieces and any worms you caught by mistake back into the Transfarmers pot. There's no rush: mature compost can wait.
