Natural protein source for birds and small animals.

Dried mealworms are a premium, nutrient-rich, natural food, ideal for backyard birds and many small animals.

Animals love them. They provide high-quality protein (≈ 50%), essential amino acids, and healthy fats (omega-3 and omega-6), supporting vitality, growth, and breeding.

 • Backyard birds (chickadees, robins, blackbirds…).
 • Chickens (egg laying, energy, well-being).
 • Hedgehogs.
 • Rodents (hamsters, rats, mice).
 • Reptiles (geckos, lizards, turtles).
 • Pond fish (koi, goldfish, etc.).

How the larvae are dried

Unlike products of Asian origin, the larvae are dried in an industrial convection system, ensuring slow, even, and carefully controlled drying.

This process produces more compact worms (smaller in volume because they are drier), while ensuring better shelf life and consistent quality.

By greatly reducing moisture, the nutrients are more concentrated and bacterial growth is limited, providing optimal food safety.

How to use

  • Serve on their own as a treat.
  • Or mix into regular food.
  • Can be rehydrated in lukewarm water for 10–15 minutes for easier digestion.

Especially recommended during:

  • Breeding season.
    Winter (higher energy needs).
    Growth of young animals.

Your questions about the Mealworms

The farm's answers to the questions our customers ask us most often.

No. Our mealworms are the larvae of the mealworm beetle, a small beetle. They come dried and ready to use. The ingredient list is simple: 100% dried mealworms, with no additives or preservatives, sourced from Spain.

They're used as food for birds and small animals, so they can't replace live worms. For a worm composter, you need our Eisenia composting worms, and for fishing, our redworms, dendros, or Canadian nightcrawlers.

Dried mealworms are great for backyard birds (chickadees, robins, blackbirds…), chickens, rodents (hamsters, rats, mice), certain reptiles (geckos, lizards, turtles), and pond fish such as koi or goldfish.

Offer them as a treat or as a supplement to the animal's regular diet, never as its only food. For hedgehogs, give them only in small amounts and only occasionally, alongside a diet suited to their species.

According to the analysis shown on the product page, our dried mealworms contain:

  • Protein: 55%
  • Fat: 30.2%
  • Fiber: 7.3%
  • Moisture: 5.5%
  • Ash: 3.62%

Slow convection drying makes them drier and more compact, with consistent quality. They are a very high-energy food, best offered as a supplement to a balanced diet.

You can offer mealworms on their own as a treat or mix them into your animals' regular food. Rehydrating them isn't required, but you can soak them for 10 to 15 minutes in lukewarm water to make them easier to digest, for example for young birds.

Start with a small amount, then adjust based on your animals' appetite.

Mealworms are mainly offered in winter, when birds need more energy, as well as during the breeding season and while the young are growing, when parents have to feed their brood.

Put a small amount in a feeder or a dish, and refill regularly rather than putting out a lot at once. Mealworms are a supplement, not a replacement for seeds and the birds' other usual foods.

Store your dried mealworms in a dry place, away from light and moisture, in their original packaging, tightly resealed. Because they're thoroughly dried (5.5% moisture), they keep well and bacterial growth is limited.
