Your questions about the Water-saving kit

The farm's answers to the questions our customers ask us most often.

The water-saving kit covers your whole home:

  • 1 shower water saver, which limits the flow to 2.1 gpm (8 L/min) and installs between the hose and the handheld shower head or on the shower mixer valve;
  • 3 faucet water savers, which limit the flow to 1.3 gpm (5 L/min) in the kitchen or bathroom;
  • 1 toilet eco-bag, which goes in the toilet tank.

With the water-saving kit, you save water at every fixture you equip: the shower drops to 2.1 gal/min (8 L/min), the faucets to 1.3 gal/min (5 L/min), and the eco-bag saves up to 0.5 gallon (2 liters) of water per flush.

How much you actually save on your bill depends on your current fixtures, your habits, and the fixed charge on your water bill. The shower is often where you'll see the biggest gains: you save both water and the energy used to heat it.

Yes, the water-saving kit installs without tools. The faucet water savers screw on in place of the existing aerator, the shower water saver fits between the hose and the shower head (or onto the mixing valve), and the eco-bag simply goes in the toilet tank.

Just make sure the eco-bag doesn't get in the way of the float or the flush mechanism.

The water savers in the water-saving kit are compatible with most household fixtures. To check, try unscrewing the aerator from your faucet: if it comes off, your faucet has a standard threaded tip.

Faucets with a built-in or unthreaded tip can't take a water saver.

Yes. The flow reducers in the water-saving kit lower the flow rate while keeping a comfortable spray, because they mix air into the water. How it feels depends on your home's water pressure. If it's already low, the difference will be more noticeable.

Be sure to clean the flow reducers with white vinegar from time to time to remove mineral buildup and maintain good flow.

The eco-bag in the water-saving kit is most useful in older, large-capacity tanks. In a newer dual-flush or small tank, it may leave you with a weak flush. In fact, some municipalities point out that it isn't suitable for all toilet tanks.

When submerged in the tank, it saves up to 0.5 gallon (2 liters) per flush. It must not get in the way of the float or the flush mechanism.
